HESLB Announces First Batch of Loan Beneficiaries for 2025/2026 Academic Year

The Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) has officially released the first list of students awarded loans for the 2025/2026 academic year. The announcement was made on Saturday, September 28, 2024, and includes 21,509 beneficiaries whose total loan allocation amounts to TZS 70.78 billion.

This initial batch covers first-year students enrolled in undergraduate programs, the Law School of Tanzania, and selected Master’s degree programs.

Accessing Loan Information via SIPA

According to HESLB Executive Director, Dr. Bill Kiwia, all applicants can now access their loan status through the Student’s Individual Permanent Account (SIPA), the same platform used during the application process. Dr. Kiwia emphasized that students do not need to visit HESLB offices to obtain their results.

“Loan information is now available for all groups. Those who have been allocated loans can view their details, while others remain under review. All updates are accessible via SIPA,” said Dr. Kiwia. He also noted that allocations for diploma and doctoral students are still in progress.

Disbursement Preparations Underway

HESLB has begun preparations to disburse funds to both new and continuing students. The goal is to ensure timely delivery of funds to respective universities, enabling students to begin their academic year without delays.

How to Check Your HESLB Loan Allocation for 2025/2026

Loan allocations are released in multiple phases. To check your status:

  1. Login to SIPA: Visit https://olas.heslb.go.tz and log in using your credentials. If you’ve forgotten your password, use the ‘Forgot Password?’ option to reset it.
  2. Check Loan Status: Once logged in, click on ‘Loan Status’ to view your application outcome.
  3. View Allocation Details: If successful, your account will display the allocated amount and disbursement schedule.
  4. Unsuccessful Applications: If not selected, a notification will appear. Applicants may appeal the decision if eligible.

Note: Loan awards are subject to eligibility criteria including Tanzanian citizenship, valid university admission, financial need, and absence of outstanding loans.

Government Support and Budget Increase

Dr. Kiwia revealed that the Government has allocated TZS 787 billion to support 245,799 students in the 2025/2026 academic year. This includes over 88,000 first-year students receiving a total of TZS 284.8 billion. The budget reflects a 5.1% increase from the previous year, with the minimum loan amount per student raised to TZS 3.0 million from TZS 2.7 million.

Universities Urged to Submit Examination Results

HESLB has called on universities to promptly submit examination results for continuing students to facilitate timely payments. “We urge institutions that have not yet submitted results to do so immediately to avoid delays in disbursements,” said Dr. Kiwia.

Upcoming Second Batch Announcement

The second list of loan beneficiaries for the 2025/2026 academic year is expected to be released next week.
